Kirkstead Junior Academy is a lively school serving 218 pupils and is part of the Pinxton Village Academies, alongside Longwood Infant Academy and John King Infant Academy.
The academies share a distinctive structure, led by a unified Senior Leadership Team and governed by a single board, fostering a warm, welcoming environment where every child is nurtured and valued.
In 2018, the Pinxton Village Academies officially became part of the Flying High Trust.
Although the existing fire alarm system had been regularly maintained by a different provider and met the category requirements outlined in the fire risk assessment, the school appointed Tecserv to take over its ongoing maintenance services for all of the Pinxton Academy sites following the arrival of a new site manager.
During Tecserv’s site visit, it was noted that the sports block operated with a standalone conventional fire alarm system that was not connected to the main school building.
This meant that if a fire alarm was triggered in the sports block, those in the main building would not be alerted, and vice versa, posing a significant communication gap in emergency situations.
The standalone Ziton ZP3 fire alarm system in the sports block posed a significant safety risk due to its lack of connection to the main school building’s system.
To resolve this, Tecserv, leveraging its expertise in educational environments and its status as an approved Ziton distributor, installed a Scope F-LINK wireless link. This innovative solution ensures that if a fire alarm is triggered in either the main building or the sports block, both buildings are immediately alerted, enabling a coordinated and safe evacuation procedure.
Additionally, during the summer break, the school installed two new fire doors. Tecserv enhanced safety further by adding call points at these locations, ensuring emergency protocols are accessible throughout the premises.
The school now benefits from a significantly improved fire safety system. With both buildings fully integrated, staff and students can be assured that if a fire alarm is activated in one area, everyone on site will be promptly alerted, facilitating a swift and efficient evacuation.
