Their incumbent fire alarm maintenance company was advocating they replace their entire system. Tecserv UK was invited to visit the site to review the existing fire alarm system that was installed, with a view to providing a comparative quotation to upgrade technology to provide greater fire protection. During our site visit we were able to assess the operations taking place on site and make recommendations in order to meet to British Standard BS5839-1:2017 category L4.

Based on reports from the previous provider and the fire risk assessment, we proposed the installation of additional detection devices to the current system.

This included installing replacement and new C-Tec fire alarm panel, additional Apollo optical fire detection devices in the office and mezzanine areas plus replacement of reported faulty devices, a beacon for the engine test bay, and a further 18 high level optical smoke detectors for coverage of the parts department store, workshop area, the area above the mezzanine and the loading bay. Once these were installed, we completed a new site zoning plan and ensured configuration to the control panel. Thorough testing was then carried out to ensure everything was functioning effectively.

Tecserv UK was subsequently appointed to carry out future fire and security alarm and fire extinguisher maintenance inspections.

By visiting the site to assess the function, age and performance of the existing system and getting a better understanding of the company’s operations we were able to recommend a solution that would meet British Standards as well as deliver the additional fire detection requirements that were needed in order to ensure complains with legislation and meet insurance obligations.
